The woman as a symbol of elegance and charm is a mean of investigation
proposed by Giuseppe Mastromatteo through his photographic art. The clean
lines, seductive shapes, sensuality and transparency blend in collage
images that may be simple but in fact make use of the latest tools of
contemporary photography to show all the fluidity of which they are
capable. The photograph ceases to be end in itself and leaves space to
other communication channels.
Mastromatteo draws its inspiration by the visions of surrealist Man Ray
and Magritte and proposes torn faces, hands that are crossed through by
eyes, ears and mouths. The discussion moves to the interior beauty of
each one omitting the canons of traditional portrait. The body becomes a
place to tell the encroachment of persons, gender, cultures, races and
religions.
The unpredictability and authenticity of artworks are a reflection of
the continuous mutations of belonging to the human condition. White,
black and red are the only colors used to define those human forms that
pose in front of the camera without leaving space to the expression of
feelings, not to divert attention from the theater of the absurd that
the artist wants to represent. These empty eyes also want to suggest a
sense of uncertainty about the third millennium.
