The Balenciaga Museoa is housed in a new building next to the Palacio Berroeta-Aldamar, in the hometown of the designer, Getaria. The building was designed by Cuban architect Julian Argilagos with volumetric and structural shapes made entirely of glass and steel. The imposing, but neutral dark facade is an obvious reference to a symbolic splendor close to that of the master Balenciaga.
The interior of the building is made up of three areas that seem suspended, each of which occupies a part of the museum. The interior design and layout of the museum have been overseen by the AV62arquitectos. Every element of the interior is designed to create a calm and quiet atmosphere. Elements of bright colors are used to give a sense of separation between the areas that have different functions and creates an inviting atmosphere enclosed by enormous dark gray walls.
The museum contains about one hundred and twenty creations of Cristobal Balenciaga, from the beginning, through to cocktail dresses and evening dress, with a digression in the wedding dresses, including the dress that when the Queen Fabiola of Aragoana wore in 1960 married to Baldwin of Belgium.
