Preserving the authenticity of a classic and add sophistication and trends is the purpose of this wonderful villa located on the hills of Malibù. In 1955 the house was purchased by a university professor, planning was assigned to Craig Ellwood and his associated Jerrold Lomax. Ellwood, after leaving his first job as accountant, became a famous architect especially thanks to its Miesian style and its glass constructions.
This property proposes perfectly the main features of the style of Ellwood. From his beginnings as an artist, he made reference to the character of the great American Modernists such as Oscar Niemeyer, Richard Neutra, John Lautner and other great masters of Southern California. The disposition on a single floor, the thin and almost translucent structure, the flat roof design are specific references to the great modernists.
Michael Boyd, an expert in the renovation of houses of the twentieth century, was hired by the new owners to bring the property to the original concept. All materials used by Elwood remained unchanged: the crystal windows, wood paneling and brick walls. Boyd merely follows the style proposed by Ellwood without proposing any major changes. Some small addition has been developed, such as the creation of an outdoor pavilion for the pool, but all perfectly follow the style of the house designed by the original architect.
