The Museum Soulages of Rodez opened its doors in May 2014, on commission of the French public institution "Communauté d'Agglomeration." The exhibition space has been dedicated to the artist Pierre Soulages, internationally renowned painter and master of Outrenoir (ultra blacks).
The Soulages Museum, is a museum in motion: the exhibition space, in fact, in addition to housing a permanent collection of works that investigate techniques and artistic principles of the French painter to which is entitled, have been designed to accommodate temporary events of international concern focused on contemporary art but also on architecture and other creative inventors.
The structure of the building is a work of collaboration between the Catalan company RCR Arcquitects and studies of architecture and design Passelac&Roques and Grontmij&Thermibel. In respect of the surrounding environment the structure is organized into a series of rectangular covered in Corten steel, which leaves specially glimpse shades of rust, and weather-resistant glass.
The Museum also has been placed on the north side of the garden of Foirail because it would create a link between the historic center of the city and the new neighborhoods. "The museum rises up from the park, it restructures, gives order, reveals and clarifies ..." (RCR Arquitects).
