The house of Valentino has recently opened a new flagship store in New York. The space has been created where formerly stood the Takashimaya Department Store on 693 Fifth Avenue, in a post-modern building designed by architects Philip Johnson and John Burgee.

The planning of the store design is a work by architect David Chipperfield. The new eight-storey facade, for which the architect has drawn inspiration from the nearby Seagram Building, designed by Mies van der Rohe, is characterized by thin vertical steel bars.

The interior show preference for concreteness of the maison, do not provide any kind of surface decoration and are covered with panelling whose predominant tone is gray. The three floors of the store are connected by a staircase sculptor made up of volumes of Palladian tiles.
