The first Soho House was founded in London in 1995 as a private club for lovers of art, film, fashion and creative industries. Today, Soho House is a real chain with members, homes, bars, clubs and hotels all over the world.

Soho House Chicago is located in the West Loop of the city, inside the Allis palace, an industrial building of five floors. The building is one of the best examples of industrial design loft in Chicago, built in 1907 by Charles Allis, influential industrial anthropologist and art collector, as the site of the Chicago Belting Company.

The project was commissioned by Allis to the architect Lawrence G. Hallberg, a pioneer in the design of factories, that combined the wide open spaces with special decorative details such as a water tower on the roof, which is currently part of the lobby of the Soho House.

In 2012, Soho House has purchased the building and began renovation works in full compliance with what would have been the will of Charles Allis. The private club today provides its members 40 comfortable rooms, a drawing room for business meetings, a music room, a 15000 square meters fitness facility and an art collection which includes works by artists like Theaster Gates, Kerry James Marshall and Damien Hirst.
